Each year, students who attend Fanshawe College and are in their second year of the Developmental Service Worker (DSW) program, are eligible to apply for the Alice Saddy Association Bursary. This bursary helps to ease a bit of the financial costs of post-secondary education as well as helps to prepare the recipients as they look towards their future employment as a DSW.
Alice Saddy Association Bursary Recipients 2017 – Joseph Sloan and Deborah Cole
Pictured above are the 2017 Alice Saddy Association Bursary Recipients Joseph Sloan (left) and Deborah Cole (right), with Association representatives Amberlea Naukarrinen and Stacey Boyes, Coordinators of Community Supports.
The recipients had this to say:
“I decided to take the DSW program because I had always wanted a career where I could help others. I had worked in a developmental classroom in high school and that is how I realized that I wanted to work with people who had developmental disabilities.”
“The most meaningful experience in the program is the experiences I have had while on placement. I have had the opportunity to meet a number of wonderful clients and staff members that have helped me learn so much about working in this field and I have had the opportunity to go on community outings, help with organizing events. I have learned so much while on placement and have had lots of fun working with people I support.”
We wish Joseph and Deborah much success in their future endeavours.
